PYRAMIDS

MEMPHIS

Ramses Ramses was THE MAN at Memphis.
sphinx of Ramses Sphinx of Ramses, the second largest sphinx in Egypt.
King Zoser’s King Zoser’s (no relation) step pyramid, built in 27 BC.
camel ride The obligatory camel ride. Our camel seemed really sweet, but sounded like Chew-bakka having a bad day when they bellowed.
a man and his camel A man and his camel, what can you say?

GIZA

three pyramids The classic view of the three pyramids of Giza , with Cairo in the far distance. The largest pyramid is actually off to the left, but no picture can do justice to its size. Even after all the hype and expectation, it staggers your mind when you finally see it.
pyramid of Chephren Pyramids were built with raw blocks covered with casings of polished limestone, most of which has disappeared over the years. Note the casings at the top of this pyramid, the second largest at Giza (pyramid of Chephren).
Mycerinus In the vault at the bottom of the smallest pyramid at Giza (Mycerinus). You wish you could sit there for hours to feel … something … but you can’t and you don’t.
climb The climb down into the tombs within the pyramids.(Mycerinus). Pretty spooky, though well lit.
view from Giza View from Giza. Of all the sites in Egypt, the Sphinx was the easiest the most emotional, a place you wanted to spend hours just hanging around and looking. Relatively small compared to the pyramids, and damaged significantly in the face, it’s still the most compelling site in Egypt.
tail Note the tail curving up from the back.
the sphinx The sphinx against a moody sky. Clouds on cue, gotta love it.
